Curation

My curatorial work is divided across Rosendal Teater, Reykjavík Dance Festival and independent curatorial work.

Rosendal Teater

Since 2021, I have been Artistic and Managing Director of Rosendal Teater in Trondheim. Together with the team, I have been developing the theatre as both an ambitious artistic platform and a learning institution: a place where local, national and international artists can stretch dominant modes of theatre, dance, choreography and live performance, and where the institution itself can be changed by the people who use it.

Over this period, we have tried to make the theatre more resonant: to artists who need stronger conditions for making work; to audiences who have not always found performing arts institutions welcoming or relevant; and to the people who work here.

That has meant investing in local artistic development, building a serious access offer, widening and deepening relationships with audiences, confronting exhaustion and precarity, and treating the theatre’s money, labour, building, climate impact and social role as part of the artistic project rather than separate from it.

Reykjavík Dance Festival

From 2013 to 2020, I co-directed Reykjavík Dance Festival with Ásgerður G. Gunnarsdóttir, developing the festival as both an international platform for dance and choreography and a sustained curatorial experiment in how a festival could belong to the artistic field and to the city around it.

Our work focused on nurturing the national dance and choreography field, connecting Icelandic artists with international contexts, building new relationships between dance and diverse communities in Reykjavík, and sharing curatorial authority through open-source approaches with artists, teenagers and other collaborators. Across the period, we expanded the festival beyond a single annual event into year-round editions, partnerships, public-space projects, discourse and experiments across theatres, schools, swimming pools, galleries, music venues, streets and homes.
