Bastard 2023 asked what an international performing arts festival might become if the institution gave away more of its curatorial power.
The programme was built through a distributed curatorial model involving The Shake Down, HEIM Festival, Nabojazz, Skeiv Scene, Skeivt Opprør, Nagirčalmmiid and Rosendal Teater. The Shake Down shaped a major part of the festival, including performances, workshops, artist conversations and the spatial life of the festival.
The edition placed community, shelter, power and environment at the centre of the curatorial process and treated parties, concerts, workshops and gathering as seriously as conventional stage works.
