BALL

BALL brings together amateur and professional dancers whose relationships to dance come from radically different places: social dance, ballet, freestyle, street dance, Bollywood, breakdance and the contemporary stage.

Each performer arrives with a dance and music they want to share. The group learns from one another, combining different styles, histories and pleasures of movement into a collective performance.

Rather than treating virtuosity as the point, BALL makes space for people of different ages, bodies, backgrounds and levels of experience to occupy the stage together. The work is about the pleasure of dancing, but also about what happens when dances are exchanged, learned and performed collectively.

The original production premiered at Reykjavík City Theatre in May 2022 and was produced by Iceland Dance Company. It subsequently played in Reykjavík and at Festspillene in Harstad. The Aarhus edition is newly made with local dancers alongside dancers from Iceland Dance Company.
